Like all Researchers I have a list of long standing problems,
and would welcome assistance with any of the following.
Please click on buttons:

2. Descendants of John WILKINS (1808-1887)
3. Thomas RELF (d.1788)
4. Descendants of John William ROSS (1829-1908)

1. William Francis ENEVER (c.1799-1862)
was living in Liverpool when Susan Elizabeth my
great grandmother was baptised in 1839. Unfortunately, her birth was not
registered, but her baptism certificate names her mother as Susan (but no
maiden name), and her father's occupation as a waiter. By the time she married in
Chelsea (1861), William was described as a butler. It seems likely that
William is the William Francis Enever, who was baptised at Abbess
Roding, Essex in 1799. The Middlesex Hospital archives show that he was
still married when he died there in 1862. His death certificate describes
him as a licensed victualer. The hospital records give an address in Soho,
but alas he was not there at the time of the 1861 census.
Any help with information regarding William and Susan his wife in the 1861 census,
or even better their marriage would be most gratefully received.

2. Descendants of John WILKINS (1808-1887)
John Wilkins was a stone mason & sculptor who first married Lucy Chapman
at Frome in Somerset, in 1847. They lived in Beaminster, in Dorset, until
c.1842 when they moved to Bridport, also in Dorset. Lucy died in 1844, and
John later, in 1847, married Lucy Gregory, by then a sister-in-law of his
late wife. The family left Dorset for America in about 1848 and settled in
Allegheny near Pittsburgh. It appears that John married a third time following the
death of his second wife. The families kept in touch with relatives in Frome
until about 1900. Letters survive and provide some details of the
family in Pennsylvania. The daughters married, and associated names include
ALSTON, EAST, HANCOCK, HAMILTON and LYSINGER.
Some further information has been obtained from US census returns, but I
would be most grateful for any help in contacting descendants of John
Wilkins in America, (or elsewhere).
Since posting this notice I have made contact with descendants of John's
Brother who also emigrated to America, but I still have to make contact with any
descendants of John & the two Lucys.

Broadwindsor Church, Dorset. Other works by John Wilkins can be seen in the
nearby Netherbury Church. Wilkins is described as a marble cutter in U.S.
census returns from Allegheny in Pennsylvania. He died at his home in
Sewickley in September 1887.

3. Thomas RELF (d.1788)
(my 4xgt.grandfather married Margaret Nash at Etchingham in
Sussex in 1770. The couple then lived in Brightling, but Thomas was "killed
by ye falling in of a lime-stone pit" in 1778. Margaret later married
John Marchant (a widower) who's descendants by his first wife later married
descendants of Thomas and Margaret Relf. The origin of Thomas is a problem
as most baptisms of Thomas Relfs can be accounted for elsewhere, or suggest
marriage at a very early age.
